Description

Antique French Majolica Plate. The small 6 inch plate is unmarked but is by Sarreguemines of France, c1895. It is a light toast color overall with various shades of green, blue and a light cranberry pink. The center flower rests on a raised dot background and is encircled by a rich blue band composed of rectangles. A butterfly floats toward the bloom and a second flower with stem, leaves and buds arches around the center. The outer banding is an interesting and unusual design composed of 2 bracket shapes under the butterfly and flower and 4 smaller "wedges" which are molded with tiny x's. The plate is in very good condition. I find no cracks, fractures, chips. The few areas that seem to perhaps be worn are not; they are as they were originally molded and painted.
