Description
This early 1900s fraternal medal (token) is from the Los Angeles (California) Parlor (local chapter) No. 45 of the Native Sons of the Golden West (N.S.G.W.), and it dates to approximately 1915. It is a campaign medal/token for J. T. Newell, who was running for re-election as Grand Trustee. One side identifies the Parlor and has an image consisting of a Bible (?) on a pedestal (on which are the wordsFRIENDSHIP LOYALTY CHARITY
) and two flags (California, U. S.). The other side has the words
FOR GRAND TRUSTEE J. T. NEWELL INCUMBENT
. There is no mark for manufacturer or metal composition. This item
measures approximately 31 mm (nearly 1-1/4") in diameter and is composed of a non-magentic metal (likely copper or brass) - with a silver surface treatment that mostly remains.
This item is in very fine condition, with fairly light actual wear, signs of handling, toning, and limited soiling, and it remains very bright. Both sides have a bright silver color overall.
