Large Rare Fine Antique Majolica Tile Hamburg Germany Bichweiler Musuem Quality

Description

Circa1880, made by Herman Robert Bichweiler and probably designed by Carl Paul Borner of Hamburg Germany. The tile depicts a Medieval Woman with her pet as she does her daily chores, the background has folded curtains & her costume/dress has many folds.
Hard to find, this elusive deeply molded earthenware was only produced for a short period by designer and architect Robert Herman Bichweiler. His company, Die Kunstgewerbliche Werkstatt, produced a form of majolica using transparent glazes on deeply molded forms. The company was awarded several prestigious awards in Melbourne, Frankfurt, and Hamburg for their products. Some of their pieces can now be found in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
The tile is in excellent condition, marked on the back as shown. The magnificent workmanship on the frame is evident in the fine detail and characteristic features of the face masks and pierced scrolling. It is ready to hang, a rare piece of art for the wall of a lucky connoisseur.
